"A nice looking hotel but rough around the edges. Only 1 very small, incredibly slow, lift which doesnt cover all floors. This was impossible to use at busy times. The room was super hot, even with both windows open and radiator off. The fan didnt do much except alleviate the stuffiness. The spa was nice, but the lockers are stress inducing so you definitely need the spa experience to help you relax after fighting with them. The bathrooms were 100% designed by men haha I liked the free cookie when we checked in though."

"A very clean, well maintained hotel. The room was surprisingly large compared to other hotels I have stayed at in Europe. Everything in the room was spotless and very comfortable. It’s a great location and valet parking makes checking in very easy and convenient. I would recommend The Grand York and would stay again"

"Lovely hotel close enough to the centre of York for convenience but just enough out of the bizz. Mattress was very much on the firm side for me but that's just personal preference. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. View from the bar, over the river was lovely. Breakfast had a good range of food. No brown bread at all on our first morning. However there was a nice selection of breads the next two mornings. My only small issue is that I like poached eggs and, on asking, the chef wouldn't do them. That's the fist time I've been at a buffet style breakfast and been refused a poached egg on request. It didn't detract from the enjoymen of my visit."

"This hotel is in THE best location for just about everything. Walking distance to all of the main attractions, minutes from the shops and restaurants and perfect if staying with a family. The room was ok, clean and big enough for us all. Parking was really expensive considering the price of the hotel. On arrival we parked across the road as it was only £4.80 fro 6pm-8am and then moved it into the hotel car park at a rate of £30 per day. Would stay here again due to location and would recommend. "

"We stayed at this property in May 2026. While the staff were extremely kind and helpful, the air conditioner in our room was not working and they refused to change our room since they were all booked and declined a refund/compensation too. When you pay £137 a night the least you expect is for the air conditioner to work especially when it’s been a hot day and you’re on the top floor of the hotel. Pretty poor for a ‘Marriott’ hotel. Avoid at all costs."

"We really liked this property. The only caveat was that we couldn’t control the heat system in our room. There was a control system, but no matter what we did it kept changing it back to the original temp, which was a bit warm for us. Super convenient location. Staff were phenomenal. One last little thing, our bed sort of shifted around a lot, it felt like we were on a swivel. This didn’t cause much of an issue for us."

"We come to york several times a year and this time was specifically for our 8 year wedding anniversary... Reception was clean and helpful. The suite, which we stayed in had a stained sofa, broken draws and unlockable bathroom door! AND you have to force the the main door to ensure it deadlocked!!!! (Room 401), no info on mini bar i had to go down just to get information. Room was far from "sound proof" we heard everything and that is people in other rooms, water running & people in the hallway ALL NIGHT LONG!. Soma treated me and my wife awful when we came up to have some drinks. The only saving grace was the downstairs restaurant, the young lad who served us yesterday (02/05/26) was amazing and very thoughtful. We would not choose to stay here again"
