This hotel was in a wonderful location. It was a stone's throw away from the city center, but far enough away that you weren't disturbed by noise. About 20 minutes drive outside of Gubbio and up a mountain, the Castello provides a unique hotel stay. Our room was in a building inside the walls. The staff was warm, welcoming, and helpful. The hotel has a chapel inside (it was a monastery) and that was an added treat. The main churches were easily accessible. Hotel Umbra is a perfect location just off the Piazza Commune under an arch across from the Information center where you can park briefly to unload. Castello Di Monterone is a small castle that has outfitted into an 11-12 room hotel. The rooms are small but comfortable with high quality bathrooms, windows, etc. There are lots of little alcoves, inside and out, to hole up in. Assisi is a wonderful medieval town, and Hotel Pax is a cozy, friendly, and well-run place to stay there. My girlfriend and I were the only guests on our first night there, and the owner stayed late to check us in, as we had a bit of trouble getting there on the bus system.
