We loved the friendly staff that encouraged us to try our Spanish. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Wifi was good. Showers were lukewarm. Tortuguero is a small village with 1500 people some dogs and no cars. Lots of small restaurants and hotels.The beds had dips on one side, but we slept on the other side and they were great.We used Exploradores for our transfer from San Jose. It included breakfast. A guide and the 90 minute boat ride to the village. Great service.

Rana Roja is deep in the jungle of Tortuguero where you live simply. While the lodging and amenities are simple and not your typical, the lodge owner and staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They provided a lovely breakfast, and dinner there was well thought out and very affordable. If we travel back to Tortuguero, we will stay here again. Watch out for the monkeys, they will break in and steal your snacks. Pura Vida!
Beautiful property right on the river. There are so many beautiful birds and gardens. A sloth hug out in the tree right outside the door. It was never more than 6 meters above the ground. Great closeup interaction. Just after midday a group of 30 plus monkeys slowly passed thru the trees on the riverbank. The host prepared dinner and breakfast and it was delicious. The property is in good condition. The room was good, big enough. The location is excellent. They helped set up our tours and we had an excellent time. Everything is super close. Their dock is nice and relaxing. We were able to get some beautiful sunset pictures. The breakfast was very good! We would definitely recommend it!

Very great food and kind staff. Hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the town which is very nice. Being at this hotel makes you feel like like you’re in a little resort.

The rooms were clean, the food was very good, the staff was amazing! Our guide on the excursions was an official guide set up by the hotel. His name is Jairo and he was amazing. We csnnot say enough about how good he was. Fluent english and Spanish and his knowledge and expertise was astounding!
Beautiful room, beautiful grounds, fun trails to navigate on the property, delicious food, fun pool, good drinks. Altogether, an almost perfect trip! Note: the only way to access tortuguero town is via another boat. It looks like they can pick you up at La Pavona so you can go straight there and avoid the public boat everyone else uses. Excellent value for the price. Family-owned. Nice spot at the end of the (only) road in town, facing onto the canal in front and the ocean in back. More homey than high-end. No a/c but with the fan on and the screened window our ocean-facing room stayed cool enough. Breakfast was good. Staff was friendly and we were able to coordinate both canoe trip and turtle watch right from there.
