Marina Grande is practically the centre of the Amalfi Coast and is the main beach on the coastline. Located right across from the Piazza Duomo, this beach is in front of the centre of town and runs 184 metres long and 40 metres wide.

It’s recognizable for the brightly coloured beach umbrellas and sunbeds positioned in front of the glittering shoreline. These are for rent, as are towels, shower areas and other amenities. If you walk further down the beach, you’ll see other vacationers lounging on their beach towels on the rocky sand to avoid having to rent umbrellas and chairs. As this is the most popular beach, it can get quite crowded. But there is ample space, and if you go early enough, you can surely nab a spot.

This beautiful beach is one of the few on the Amalfi Coast facing west, which means it remains bathed in sunlight longer than most of the other beaches in the region. It’s the perfect choice for winding down in front of a truly gorgeous sunset, after a long day of sightseeing.

It’s a bit of walk down to the beach, though – about 400 steep steps, making it an unsuitable choice for visitors who can’t make the descent. Even so, the beach is also accessible by elevator from nearby resorts. If you get there early, there are usually sunbeds and umbrellas available. What makes this beach unique and a popular choice among the younger tourists is the lively atmosphere. The guests of Gavitella enjoy live music and regular fun watermelon slicing (using sabres) on the shore.

Just 5 minutes away from Solerno, this young beach was created in the 1950s by a flood, which submerged the coast and created a stretch of sandy, pebbled seabed. Today, the beach offers panoramic views of the stunning Amalfi Coast and colourful pastel-hued hillside town above. It’s a popular holiday spot for families who enjoy the picturesque surroundings and clear waters.

The beach has a private establishment on one side with spaces for rent and a free public area on the other.

Lido Delle Sirene or Mermaid Beach is close to the harbour and Marina Grande beach. Not usually as crowded as the Marina Grande, this beach still has stunning ocean views and beach services with changing rooms, showers and food readily available.

Even so, this beach’s shoreline is rockier than the Marina Grande, so proper footwear is advised for strolling on the shore and swimming. A café overlooks the beach serving sandwiches, pasta, bruschetta and other Italian dishes.

The beach is accessible by car with a parking garage conveniently located beside the entrance. However, the beach is rocky as well, so be sure to bring water shoes.

Fornillo Cove is a small pebble-stone beach in Positano with a café and restaurants nearby offering salads, beer and light Italian fare. With the main beach of Positano, Spiaggia Grande, always full to overflowing in the summer, the Fornillo Cove is a quieter alternative for visitors looking for a relaxing afternoon. The beach has 3 private beach clubs and a cove that beachgoers can enjoy free of charge.

Interestingly, Fornillo Cove used to be a nudist beach, and some individuals still arrive or sunbathe topless here.

You can enjoy Duoglio beach if you don’t mind walking. This beach is only accessible by boat from Amalfi or via an intimidating series of steps – over 200 steps, to give you an idea. But many tourists say that the long walk is worth it when they arrive at the 170-metre long beach with crystalline waters and beautiful beach resorts.

While the shoreline and seabed are rocky and require proper footwear, the beach is still a favourite spot among visitors who wish to snorkel as the clear waters offer great visibility. You can also enjoy delicious and unique Italian fare, like freshly made pasta and octopus salad, at the nearby restaurants.

Ravello is one of the most charming towns on the Amalfi Coast, and its lovely beach is one of the most popular travel destinations known for its intimacy, majestic sun-kissed shoreline and gorgeous villas.

Rocks and cliffs surround it, though, so it does get shady towards the afternoon, but its location also provides beachgoers with more privacy. Despite its popularity, this beach doesn’t get as crowded as some of the others.
