This hotel is in a great location in Lawrence - downtown and on the river. I had a riverside room and had a great view of the river and all the activity that takes place there. I'm a birder, and while I wasn't there for that purpose, I saw dozens of birds, including a few new ones during my stay. Eastern Phoebe's, Yellow-rumped warblers and a Kestral were all frequent visitors right outside my window, while the Canada Geese were vocal during most of the daylight hours that I was in my room.
The TV in my room had lousy reception - everything was pixelated. I wasn't there to watch TV, so it wasn't a big deal, but it would've been a bummer if there was something I'd wanted to watch. Also, the back deck could use some TLC - lamps are broken, lots of leaves and other evidence that it's not regularly swept or cleaned.
The staff were excellent and kind. They broke a role of quarters for me before I headed to the KU campus (the last time I'd been there the visitor parking required coins). I didn't need to use them and they readily took the quarters back. It was small, but kind. I plan to stay here again.
