Best days are behind it
First of all, I have absolutely no doubt that this building was majestic in its day, but its day was some time ago.
I had the misfortune to arrive very shortly before tropical cyclone Alfred, and whilst I appreciate that such things are a rare occurrence for the area, the lack of preparedness at the hotel did shock and disappoint me somewhat. For example, I was told that there were no torches for hotel guests in the event of a power cut, and had to request bottles of water.
As for the room itself, it was a great size, and the bathroom looked to have been recently renovated to a good standard. However, most of the TV channels did not work, and the hotel WiFi was abysmal to the point of it being practically non-existent. I broached this subject with staff, and my complaint was dismissed immediately because "the WiFi is complimentary". The remainder of the room was incredibly dated and had a musty smell. I also had no working phone in my room and was told that was a conscious decision by the apartment's owner.
There was an incessantly loud banging noise coming from the floor above me for most of my stay, which would last for hours at a time; it made sleeping incredibly difficult at times.
The location of the hotel is excellent, and all of the staff I interacted with were polite, if occasionally inattentive(my washing machine developed a fault which was never addressed). A special mention to the wonderful lady who helped me with my luggage.
I would not stay here again.
