Outeniqua is a very pleasant budget accommodation option. We decided to go to George last minute as part of our trip to South Africa so our options were limited by the time we went to book something. We would normally have booked B&B at the least, so this was a little different for us. However, Trip Advisor came in very handy for excellent breakfast options in George.
We were very happy with Outeniqua overall, it was well above the level you would expect for a 'budget' option. The house itself is very comfortable and pleasant, our bedroom was a good size and the beds were comfy, but the one thing that let it down was our bathroom. There was no window in the en suite and the fan wasn't strong enough, so the bathroom permanently smelled damp. After 3 showers the door had to be left open, which meant the room then smelled too. Also, there was only one chair in our room which is fine as we had an extra bed for our daughter, but the seat was broken, so we couldn't sit on it!
A bonus for our 9 year old was a small pool in the garden. There was shaded parking for all guests' cars - bonus in the height of summer. There is a large fridge that guests can use for their own food, wine etc, and there was complimentary tea and coffee available 24/7.
As I say, overall we were very happy with our find, and if we were stuck again we'd have no hesitation returning to Outeniqua. It's just a pity the bathroom wasn't in better condition as it let the whole experience down a bit.
