This was the perfect hotel to stay in, as it was right in the heart of Appenzell and made everything accessible by foot. Bonus points for the parking lot for our rental car.

The Hotel Appenzell is absolutely charming! The central location on the plaza is excellent, with a view to activities going on in town. It's conveniently right next to the Tourist Info center. The staff was cheerful and helpful. They responded promptly to requests, such as for a fan in our room. The room was delightful. It was bigger than other rooms we stayed in in Switzerland, and it was decorated in a charming, white and gold french style, with crystal ceiling lights, and big windows that open for airflow. This room made us feel like we were in old Europe, not IKEA. Breakfast was good, but not special. The outdoor patio for morning dining was very pleasant. We also had dinner here one night which we thought was excellent.
