I would normally stay in a five-star contemporary hotel, with all the usual facilities. I was very surprised that there are none in Cowes, given it's a centre for international yachting. So, based on the reviews on Hotels.com and the photos, I chose this hotel. It was a great choice. The location, with harbour view from the very atmospheric and authentic 'olde world' lounge (there is an 'honesty' bar with a great stock of spirits and cold drinks and beer, so open all the time), the owner Maggie, Jackie and all the staff were so friendly and accommodating, the room and bathroom were spotless and had mod cons like large screen TV and coffee maker, but also plenty of authentic charm. Even had bath, with piping hot water all the time. High quality linen and comfortable bed. Also very quiet at night-time, as far enough out of the town, but close enough for a brisk walk in, along the promenade. Finally, the food was real 'home-cooking' and delicious, very fresh and tasty. Highly recommend. The photos do not do it justice - it's even better, and more atmospheric!
