"Good hotel at a decent price. Gabriel at the front desk checked us in and made sure we had everything we needed. Rooms are comfortable and have balconies. Interestingly the shower and toilet are part of the room, with frosted glass doors for privacy. Traffic was a bit loud but calmed down at night. There is a security guard posted through the evening/night. Our room had a view of Christ the Redeemer."

"I very much enjoyed my stay at Vila Galé! The staff were excellent from check in to check out, the property itself is beautiful in an old, but updated colonial property. I stayed in one of the apartments right beside the pool and terrace, and even while you were situated with a walkway outside the room, I felt safe and comfortable enough to open the windows wide and take a nap or do whatever within the room. "The hotel was clean and comfortable, but it is old. Elevators take a long time. My bathroom kept backing up and leaking. Door would jam shut and I had to be shown by staff the “trick” to get door open. Which implies it’s a known issue they are not looking to fix any time soon. The rooms can be noisy from street traffic through the day and night. Staff was friendly and helpful."

"It's a great hotel for the location. Near Cinelandia and Lapa, short ride to several businesses, consulates and Santos Dumont airport. Perfect view of the Sugar Loaf mountain from the rooftop by the pool. Staff was attentive and helped with what they could. However during my stay, the boiler broke down and there was no hot water for several hours into the night, so no hot shower that day. I also was shocked they didn't have a proper business center (with a "business " name and everything). TV only had local channels and awful signal, so couldn't even check/watch some of the World Cup. Wifi was a hit or miss, often only working in the lobby area. 2 elevators and one was under repairs, so 1 elevator for 19 floors, I was using the stairs often. Breakfast was excellent. If they fixed whatever wasn't working during my stay, it's a great hotel."
