Paganakan Dii Tropical Retreat
6/10 Okay
"This place is such a dump for the price. We stayed in a standard room which was a dump. Only one plug for the entire room. water heater didn't work. There was not even any way to make a cup of tea by boiling water in the room. Aircon couldn't keep the room cool during the afternoon. The breakfast really sucked. all in all, this is way overpriced for what you get. But, I guess that's the sad story of Sabah in general. People keep booking crap. So, resorts keep providing crap for their guests. "
"Had booked for 2 nights but left after 1 night! Terrible experience!
Mindful this is a 2 star resort but the place was dilapidated, unkempt & stinking.
Resort is in lush tropical setting but the whole place is neglected. Very tacky decor with concrete or plastic painted to look like wood/rustic. The place was a mess - boxes, rubble, general stuff lying everywhere.
Staff are uninterested & generally loiter around.
The pool was vile! A layer of scum & dirty around the tiles and the water was cloudy with lots of debris - we even found a bandaid floating.
The wooden lounge beds were rotten wood and so uncomfortable.
There was a pungent smell of dirty water throughout.
Room was primitive with a flimsy door - didn’t feel safe at all. Given a bath towel but no hand towel - bath towel was frayed & very grubby.
The bed & pillow were hard as hell and lumpy!! Woke up with a sore back
Breakfast was rotten.
We left the next day - staff didn’t even acknowledge or ask how was our stay!
The only positive is it’s close to the sunbears & orangutan sanctuaries.
Sepilok is a lovely area but consider paying a bit more for somewhere better (the Nature Resort across the road was great)."
"Rooms never serviced. Bring your own shower gel and shampoo. Thin towels and only two per room. Cold breakfast from the buffet. Could do with having a drinks and snacks cabinet. Lumited cold drinks when resturant shut. Nothing around there shop wise. Bring supplies. On the plus the people at the desk were good. And walking distance to Orang-Utan, Sun Bear and RDC. Or 4 ringets in taxi, so cheap."
"Helpful staff - Linda manages it all beautifully. Plenty of food - not gourmet but thats not why we were there. Pleasant rooms and bathrooms. It is out in the wild - and it feels like it. Twice a day small groups were taken out in motor boats down the river Kitabangan for the chance to view a variety of monkeys, orangutans, Borneo elephants. It was a bird watchers papadise. Our driver Tanjong did his best to find us the Borneo 5. What a wonderful 3 days and nights.
