The Freddie Mercury Hotel
6/10 Okay
"Clean, right at the train station, so location good for those travelling…..very simple rooms and furnishings. If you aren’t looking for bells and whistles this could work."
"This hotel is found inside a high rise so you have to go to the 7th floor bar to check in. They seem to want to make it self check in so have screens set up for you to input all your information. They did try and get me to do this beforehand but I was busy enjoying my vacation.
We were traveling with another couple and were early so they kept our bags while we went to lunch and said the rooms would be ready at 3:00 at the latest. We came back at 1:30 and our friends room was ready but not ours. Ours wasn't ready until exactly 3:00. It seemed odd. My guess was since we booked through Expedia we were being punished. The rooms were great though, it's a huge hotel so a long way from the elevator. Big clean room and great air conditioning."
"A functional hotel conveniently situated opposite Lausanne railway station and 40 yards from the metro entrance. The complimentary transport card that is provided allows easy access up to the old town (2 stops) and down to the lakeside (4 stops).
My room facing the station (currently undergoing major expansion) was compact and reasonably comfortable, with a notably high pressure shower.
The station surroundings are typically unprepossessing but the attractive parts of the town are not far distant."
"Firstly, the good stuff. A superb, convenient location, clean rooms and friendly staff (what we saw of them, see below).
The negatives, very small rooms (ok for 2 people but when the sofa bed is extended it is extremely cramped, the reception staff don't even look up when you enter or leave the hotel (this didn't really bother us but would some people and it also gives a 'can't be bothered' impression), the wooden floors allow every noise from the room above to be heard (especially the clowns on our last night who were dragging chairs across the room for most of the evening/night), only 1 pillow per person and 2 towels between 3 people (no hand towels) and, finally, no tea/coffee making facilities.
All in all, not bad but the negatives (mostly minor ones) added up."
"Worst hotel mattress I've ever slept in (rock hard and lumpy, old and discoloured under the clean sheets), view to a filthy interior courtyard, and loud hostel vibes (university block booking guests liked to chat in the common area right outside my room, at least never after midnight). The 'hair dryer' was from another era (a wall mounted U shaped tube situation) and it was either broken or I couldn't figure out how to turn it on.
Positive notes were the location, and the hot water never ran out and had good water pressure (though the shower was very, very small).
I come to Geneva often for work and usually get much nicer hotels for the same price I paid here, but this was a last minute trip and all the was left in budget. I'll avoid next time."
