LOVE this hotel!! The moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the hotel manager and staff. The service was wonderful, our suite was very nicely appointed, with gorgeous views of the lake. The Lugano Dante hotel is a great hotel, the location can't be beaten, steps from the funicular and right by the city center, we walked everywhere. This hotel is very generous in terms of taking of customers, free drinks in room mini bar, coffee, espresso, apples, waters in the lobby, make one feel so much like home. We arrived at the hotel at a relatively early hour, checked in and left our luggage in the hotel.
After a day of sightseeing in the area we returned to the hotel.
The receptionist took us to the room and only after they entered the room did she say,

We had a very pleasant stay here while en route from France to Italy. The hotel was extremely convenient to the train station, and, even though we arrived after the front desk had closed, we easily arranged to have the keys left for us in a lock box. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we found Lugano utterly charming and scenic. The room is small by American standards, but spacious relative to what you would expect to find in larger European cities. I'd gladly recommend it to rail travels...
All our hotel experiences with IHG in Europe have been about a 3 or 4. There is SO MUCH room for improvement! I just wish they cared more about their customers!
Gorgeous hotel with amazing views of the city. Although it is a little outside the city, you can walk (about 30-45 minutes) or the hotel provides transportation at certain times of the day.

We stayed at this hotel twice - it was a stopping point for us on a Zurich to Tuscany vacation and back. The hotel is clean, modern and the staff is friendly. If you have children, they provide rollaway beds that are comfortable but expect them to crowd the room, because the rooms although well appointed, are small. I highly recomend opting for the included breakfast option - the breakfast buffett is excellent.
