There is no place that I know of with a more scenic and tranquil view and setting on the Liddle Water. Set in Elliot territory on the edge of Armstrong lands in the ancient border lands of Liddesdale, this is an excellent location to start any journey through the area in discovering the area’s rich border reiver history. Jane and Michael and the most gracious hosts you will find. Morning coffee in the gazebo over the Liddle overlooking the pastures with the sound of the Black Byrn flowing below...
There was no one at the desk. Self check in via the hotel email. Room was on 2nd floor up two flights of winding stairs not easy to maneuver with luggage. Limited food at the hotel. Did have free parking. Very old building not handicap accessible. Room was a good size and comfortable. Bathroom was very small couldn’t open the door all the way. Not recommended for older people or anyone who can’t do stairs.
The Horse and Hound is located in a quiet area of the borderlands, yet has access to a good road net hat puts you in the center of many great places to visit. The place is quaint and comfortable, with the dining area being bright and cheerful, and the pub (the oldest part of the building) and is the village place to go (the locals are very friendly). The staff are cheerful and helpful, and the food is very good. The rooms are a decent size, with on suite bathrooms, and the beds are comfortable....
Very clean and new inside. Excellent breakfast. Parking on street out front no problem. Could use a little direction on using the shower and possibly a grab handle. I would stay here again.
I can't say enough about this place. Our stay was exceptional and revitalizing; If you're looking for quiet and solitude this is the place to go. You can hear bird chirping, no road noise, and the gardens are beautiful. The food was fantastic. I can't say enough about the staff. They are amazing and everything you wished a hotel staff would be. They catered to us like we were the only ones there. If you want a quiet place to go to after a day exploring the Borderlands in Scotland; this is the...
