If you plan on doing the Shimanami Kaido e-bike tour, this is a great hotel. We had views from our room of the first bridge and island. On our e-bike return from Onomichi, we had views of our hotel from the same bridge. Close to everything.
Every once in a great while you find a place where you wish you could stay extra days. This is one of those places!
We had a group of nine people so we booked the entire Omoya house (6 bedrooms) which worked great for us. The cordial host came out to meet us when we arrived. The house is beautiful, and impeccably clean. It is well equipped with lots of dishes, pans, appliances. The grounds are gorgeous, peaceful and quiet. I definitely hope to go back sometime soon!
This hotel is unlike anything I have seen in Japan. It has California/Palm Springs vibes thanks to the modern open air architecture, white washed clean buildings, amazing indoor/outdoor flow, and fantastic location right on the water.
We stayed in one of the private cottages which face the water and we had an unobstructed view of the bridge. Despite being about 50m back from the waters edge, our cottage had an amazing breezy and almost tropical feel. Thanks to the very cleverly laid out...
The Funaya is amazing! The staff were very helpful, they welcome you outside if hotel door take you to checking lobby, everyone we encountered were all great. The lobby is beautiful , the room is huge and super clean, the big onsen , the breakfast, we are happy with everything in the hotel! Oh, the location is excellent, 3 minutes to Dogo onsen station and the shopping street, 5 minutes to the legendary Onsen , can’t be better!
