I visited Tunis as a solo female Muslim traveller. I did meet local friends while there, but part of the time I was walking around on my own. I found Tunis to be safe and friendly. English is not widely spoken but you can get by with French. Love it!

Tourists do NOT need to pay an exist fee at the airport. THE DEPARTRE TAX NO LONGER EXISTS SO DO NOT PAY IT.

Things seem to close quite early in the surrounding area (medina) so it can seem quite scary walking back to the hotel in the evening as a solo female (I made sure not to stay out too late), but having said that, I never felt unsafe.

It's a beautiful country to visit a lots of old history and civilization
"Great stay at the Movenpick. We enjoyed the quick check in and beautiful room/property. Just wish that the bedding wasn’t so thick and hot and that the pillows were firmer. However, to be fair, we didn’t ask them to be changed. The airport shuttle was quick, comfortable and efficient. "
"The police were heavy on the streets with machine guns. If you went out after dark to get dinner there were drunk people and people fighting in the streets... men would expose themself and urinate not caring who could see
The hotels facilities were filthy the bed had bed bugs and my husband was all bit up. The breakfast that was supposed to be included never existed. I feel lucky to be alive and out of that place!"
"Royal Victoria is just so beautiful! It is located right at the entrance of a busy market, walking distance to many restaurants and servicves. The staff members are always warm and nice. Their hotel restaurant serves very good food, we ate there every day. I highly recommend the hotel."
"Very good condition with all modern comforts, beautifully themed around antiquity with tasteful and well-done decoration. However, there were long hairs on the floor and in the bathtub, but that’s secondary compared to the impeccable quality of service. The breakfast was varied and generous. A very pleasant stay — I highly recommend it.”"
"We stayed at the carthage suite for 3 nights. It was very comfortable. There is a bar/lounge just one floor up but that did not bother me at all. We slept well, the room gets nice and dark for a great rest. The room was in a very clean condition. There is tea, coffee machine, and lots of choices to chose from the mini bar. The tub is very big, with a sink and big mirror. The toilet is separate with it's own sink. There is nice gel hand soaps, body soap and shampoo which were organic and smelled so nice. All the staff at the property were very polite and friendly. The breakfast was very fresh, with a chef making nice omelets, a nice expresso coffee maker, fresh baked bread, lots of desserts, cheeses, vegetables, and hot foods. The staff made us feel welcome. The entrance has a security that made me feel very safe. We also ordered room service, the food comes from the luna sky bar also which the food was superb. In addition, we walked around the hotel and there are so many nice coffee shops and a turkish restaurant with delicious foods. We loved our stay."
