Learn more about Virginia City

Wooden boardwalks creak underfoot in this perfectly preserved 1860s gold rush boomtown, once the territorial capital of Montana. The Brewery Follies delivers raucous vaudeville shows that would make Calamity Jane (a former resident) blush. Ride the Alder Gulch Short Line Steam Railroad for views that explain why prospectors braved harsh conditions for a glimpse of these mountains. The Virginia City Historic District showcases buildings frozen in time, while the Opera House still hosts performances in its Victorian splendor. Visit the J. Spencer Watkins Memorial Museum and Ranks Drug Store Museum for glimpses into frontier life. Despite its name, this National Historic Landmark is decidedly small-town America, with fewer than 250 souls keeping its wild west spirit alive.

El Western Cabins & Lodges

El Western Cabins & Lodges

10/10 Excellent
"I liked the space and the grounds were well kept and attractive. The staff was exceptional and very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay again. What was less than perfect was the fact that there is no air conditioning although the front staff say installation of A/C is in the works and maybe a year off. we visited when the temperature was in the 90's and it got even hotter a few days after we left. The property is beautiful, especially the back lawn area with creek and water wheel but was not crazy about the cabins proximity to the highway which causes quite noticeable traffic/truck noise. Even so, we enjoyed our stay."
