Learn more about Johns Island
Beneath ancient live oaks dripping with Spanish moss, this island offers a glimpse of the South's natural splendor. The magnificent Angel Oak Tree, estimated at 400 years old, spreads its massive limbs in a display that humbles even seasoned travelers. Kayak through tidal creeks where dolphins surface with surprising regularity, or explore the Gullah Geechee cultural exhibits that preserve a unique heritage. Local seafood shacks serve fresh catches with zero pretension. Golf enthusiasts can tee off at Oak Point while nature lovers paddle the waterways separating this island from neighboring Kiawah and Seabrook. The marshlands transform at sunset, when herons stalk through golden grasses and the air fills with a symphony of cicadas.
