Hotel La Rose
10/10 Excellent
"Although I prefer to stay in the main building, because the rooms remind me of my grandmother's house, I spent a week in a beautiful, spacious suite in the new addition. It is a light-filled space that is built around a flower-filled courtyard. Upstairs rooms have balconies and lower floor rooms have gated patios. Thisvisca gated venue, with access provided by your room key. Hotel La Rose is ideally located in Railroad Square in Santa Rosa. It is a short walk to the Smart Train platform. The ride is free for people over age 65! It is easy to head go as far north as Windsor or as far south as Larkspur, where ferry connections can be made to San Francisco. Railroad Square offers a choice of several good restaurants and a charming ice cream parlor with specialty ice cream flavors. There are some intriguing antique stores, a game store, a terrific yarn shop which holds a variety of classes, and a Junior League thrift store whose profits serve needy children in the area! One of my favorite events is the Tuesday night lighted bike parade which rolls through Railroad Square and can be a fun finish for Taco Tuesday at Chevy"s!"
"If I could, I'd give the property 4.2 stars. First. It's a beach hotel, so I always give some latitude because maintaining a property under those conditions is difficult.
Pluses:
Location: You're a 5 minute drive to Doran Beach ($8 day use) and 7 minutes to Salmon Creek Beach (which we preferred).
Staff: Super friendly and helpful.
View: Lovely view of the Bay.
A little strange:
Design choices. Clearly going for modern design but if felt like a huge empty room with two beds. Lots of unused space and walls.
There's Keurig in the room, but no water provided. You have to go outside to a fairly sketchy looking machine for water. I just filled the container with ice and let it melt overnight.
Negatives:
I'm not keen on the no staff on site after hours. I'm not comfortable with the security of the entry to room by code. My daughter asked, "how often do you think they change the codes?" These are personal preferences. Also, clearly, they've remodeled the property, and if you drive all the way around the parking lot, you can see piles of debris that was removed (a water heater, and drywall etc) Tacky and unsightly. Also, they've remodeled with home-depot style fixtures (I have the exact bathroom faucet cabinet in our guest bathroom), which I don't think will stand up to wear and tear.
Recommend: Captain Davey's (5 minute walk) for coffee and/or ice cream. Limited hours. And there are several souvenir and restaurants just north of the hotel, by car."
"Ok, this place is really nice, especially for the price. They have a free cocktail and snack in the evening, and a nice breakfast included. My room had a small kitchen with stove, micro, sink, and 3/4 size fridge. It had a hideabed, a table, and the living room was divided from the bedroom by a wall, so it felt like 2 rooms. Super impressed for what I was looking for. Great that a casino is just right down the road."
"The staff, from check in to the bar and the restaurant. Great service, and they went beyond what I would normally expect. Even at a luxurious hotel. The food at the restaurant was fantastic."
