Top neighborhoods in Graz

Graz City Centre
Graz City Centre feels like strolling through a living time capsule where medieval meets modern. The UNESCO-listed Old Town reveals cobblestone streets, the hourly chiming Glockenspiel, and the iconic Schlossberg clock tower. Discover Renaissance courtyards hiding behind ornate doorways or contrast ancient architecture with the futuristic "Friendly Alien" Kunsthaus Graz. Traditional Styrian gasthauses serve local specialties alongside international options throughout the largely car-free historic area. Choose from boutique hotels housed in converted palaces where original frescoes and modern amenities coexist beautifully. Walking is your best transportation option, with trams connecting to the main station in just ten minutes.
Lend
Lend packs a cultural punch with its historic Lendplatz farmers' market, where locals shop for fresh Styrian specialties. Explore the neighborhood's mix of colorful architecture, street art, and ethnic shops that create a true urban village feel. The Graz Art Museum showcases cutting-edge exhibitions while the unique Murinsel floating platform on the Mur River offers quirky charm. Dining options range from authentic Turkish and Balkan eateries to trendy cafés with outdoor seating. Tram lines 1, 3, and 7 connect you easily to Graz's city center, though most attractions are within a pleasant 10-minute walk. Boutique guesthouses and modern apartments make comfortable bases for exploring this walkable, multicultural neighborhood.
Eggenberg
The Eggenberg neighborhood has lots to see including Eggenberg Palace and Archaeology Museum & Lapidarium.

Mariatrost
Perched on a lush hillside, Mariatrost captivates visitors with its magnificent Baroque basilica rising above Graz. Religious travelers climb the historic stone steps to admire golden altars and intricate frescoes inside, while nature lovers explore the surrounding Leechwald forest trails. The peaceful neighborhood offers panoramic city views that reward the uphill journey. Traditional Austrian gasthauses serve hearty schnitzel and strudel for hungry hikers and pilgrims. Most visitors arrive by car as public transit is limited, though the authentic pilgrimage experience comes from walking the trails from central Graz.

Gries
Gries whispers stories from Graz's past through its medieval streets and Gothic cloisters. Wander past the historic Parish Church, discover remnants of ancient city walls, and mingle with locals at cobblestone market squares. The district's multicultural character comes alive in diverse restaurants where Austrian schnitzel shares space with Turkish kebabs and Balkan grills. Family-run guesthouses in converted historic buildings offer an authentic stay experience. Getting around is easy with efficient trams and buses stopping every few blocks, while the pedestrian-friendly layout makes exploring the red-tiled roofs and hidden courtyards a delight on foot.

Grand Hôtel Wiesler Graz
"Room retained 1900 appearance very good renovation. Convenient to Essenberg and to core old city. Very good breakfast"
Hotel Daniel Graz
"Everyone was very helpful and attentive to my questions and needs."
Radisson Hotel Graz
"good, cześć and realny good breskfest."
Hotel Weitzer Graz
"Perfect place to be in Graz - I was there on my own for a short trip to see friends. The hotel is welcoming and very central next to the river - multiple bridges for an easy crossing into the heart of the city - have stayed there before and will do in the future! Highly recommended."
Hotel Drei Raben
"The hotel was in a great location and the staff very friendly. The room was huge, even for our family of 5. We found the beds very comfortable and overall enjoyed the hotel. The only downside was that the floors weren’t clean - our socks/feet got very dirty walking around the room, and also there was lots of dust under the beds. If they gave the floors a good steam mopping and vacuumed under the beds, I would’ve given them 5 stars. Despite this, would stay here again if we ever come back to Graz."
Parkhotel Graz - Traditional Luxury
"Fully enjoyed my stay here. The staff were lovely and the property is clean and quiet. It’s in a great location as well. I was driving and very happy that they had parking available. Breakfast was very nice and they even had fresh orange juice which I appreciated. I’d stay again."
Hotel Mercure Graz City
"The staff very helpful. Position perfect. Just a short walk from the central rail station. Short walk to all the old town."
Motel One Graz
"It’s a great hotel in an excellent location for walking around Graz, with plenty to see and tons of restaurants nearby. There is a public transportation hub very close, and a dedicated taxi stand across from the lobby doors. The rooms are very nice, and the hotel has a very upscale and modern feel, which isn’t generally my style, but there’s nothing to complain about as far as aesthetics and appeal of the property’s design. Nice, adequate breakfast provided, but lacking an actual dining area (you kind of have to eat in the lobby)—still nothing that I’d find to complain about. The staff are very warm and friendly. I enjoyed my stay very much. Photos include a view from my room."
Schlossberghotel
"Wonderful hotel! The location is great, the decor, including the art,is so tasteful and lovely and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We loved this hotel!"
