Long Beach
Long Beach offers a laid-back coastal escape with pristine Atlantic beaches perfect for lazy days in the sun. Oak Island Lighthouse stands guard while Ocean Crest Pier attracts fishing enthusiasts casting lines into the blue. Beach cottages in weathered wood and pastel colors create a charming backdrop for morning walks along wide sandy shores and evening lighthouse gazing. Seafood restaurants serve fresh catch specials with a side of Southern coastal hospitality. Vacation rentals and beach cottages dominate the accommodation scene, many featuring ocean views and wraparound porches. Getting around requires a car, though beachfront areas boast high walkability with wooden walkways connecting public access points.

Yaupon Beach
Yaupon Beach delivers quintessential coastal charm with direct access to pristine Atlantic shores. Spend your days strolling along oceanfront walkways or relaxing on wide, sandy beaches where shell collecting and surf fishing beckon. The quiet residential streets lined with beach cottages offer a peaceful retreat from more bustling tourist spots. Casual beachfront cafes and seasonal food trucks serve up fresh seafood just steps from vacation rentals. Most homes feature ocean views, wide porches, and that weathered coastal style that screams relaxation. Getting around is easiest by car, though the beach areas are perfectly walkable for evening strolls under starry skies.

Caswell Beach
The Caswell Beach neighborhood has lots to see including Oak Island Lighthouse and Caswell Beach.

Tranquil Harbour
Tranquil Harbour lives up to its name with a peaceful vibe and gorgeous ocean access that'll make you forget your problems back home. Vacation rentals line the streets, giving you that classic beach town feel without the tourist traps. Ocean Crest Pier offers prime fishing while the surrounding beaches invite you to plant your umbrella and chill all day. The neighborhood thrives on self-sufficiency with most visitors cooking in their rental kitchens rather than hunting for restaurants. Getting around is easiest with your own wheels, though the flat terrain makes for breezy bike rides. Expect weathered cedar cottages, wraparound porches, and the constant soundtrack of Atlantic waves.

Learn more about Oak Island
Barefoot beachcombing becomes second nature on this barrier island where the Atlantic meets the Cape Fear River. Ocean Crest Pier extends like a wooden welcome mat for anglers seeking flounder and king mackerel. Salt marshes create perfect kayaking labyrinths where herons pose with prehistoric dignity. The lighthouse at nearby Caswell Beach stands sentinel over waters where sea turtles return each summer to nest. Locals recommend timing visits to Sheep Island with low tide for optimal shelling opportunities. The town transforms from sleepy to bustling when summer arrives, though autumn visitors enjoy the same beaches with far fewer footprints. Holden Beach makes a worthy day trip for those seeking a change of sandy scenery.

Ocean Crest Motel
"Room was clean. Staff was nice."
Captain's Cove Motel
"We stayed here 6 years ago. We knew the rooms were cozy. We returned because of the proximity to the beach. Last time, the island had very few lights and the stars were amazing! I felt like you could reach out and touch the Milky Way. Now there are more houses and lights and so, fewer stars were visible than in my backyard. There is now a fee for parking if you want to bring a vehicle with a cooler or whatever to the beach. The beach is still beautiful, room is cute, but had a weird smell, and walls need repairs. There was no shampoo, and we had to request cups. We didn't have time for the pool, as it was on the news the bridge would close to move a house. I felt like $140 was overpriced. Room had a table with 2 chairs I didn't take a picture of."

"The room was nice and clean. The bed was comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was great. Close walk to the beach, and a nice pool area."
Anchor Inn Motel
"Whe had a great stay at the hotel just a few issues. Walls are paper thin and the noise level at midnite was aggravating. My grandson got stung by a huge wasp in the room 3 times but we worked it out. Location and cleanliness was very refreshing and I calked and they let us check in early which was very nice. I'd stay again and refer people to the hotel."
