Kirkwall Youth Hostel
10/10 Excellent
"Perfect 'utilitarian' accommodation for a fan of hostels ... ... The building is not particularly attractive and the rooms are basic and afford no good views ... However, the beds are comfortable, the many bathrooms/shower rooms are newly equipped and excellent, the kitchens are great, the dinning room large & practical, and the lounge very comfortable and equipped with board games & books along with comfy settees. The hostel is a few minutes walk into the centre of town and just a mile from a lovely swimming beach at Scapa where I swam every morning, except for a couple of mornings when I drove a little further to Inganess Beach which is beautiful. For me, so much nicer than a posh hotel because you can cook & eat at any time and fellow visitors always seem relaxed, friendly & chatty ... you just seem to get a much better class of person in a Scottish hostel!"
Smithfield guesthouse
10/10 Excellent
"My second time staying here, and I will be back. The room was spacious super clean and comfy and the woman on reception couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. It's a shame they don't reopen the restaurant for evening meals though, I'm sure they would be busy every night. The Co-op has changed to an Asda - it's right across the road and the hotel offers wine glasses in the lounge if you bring a bottle in to your room. Very nice place."
The Shore

"Very nice accommodation, I have stayed before so I knew what i was doing into, I will be back."
Karrawa Guest House
10/10 Excellent
"Perfect. Friendly, clean, good rooms, excellent showers and fabulous breakfast. Thank you!"
The Ayre Hotel
8/10 Good
"Handy hotel for parkrun. Good quality I’d expect from its rating but shocked they didn’t supply a toothpaste which I’d forgotten. Even as an Airbnb Host I would be able to do that and would expect nothing less from a hotel, especially when listed available in their hotel info book"
Albert Hotel

"Loved it there."
The Orkney Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Staff was very accommodating. The large tub with jets was relaxing. The central location was excellent. Hot breakfast and selection was very good. We plan to come back. Highly recommend."
Stromness Apartments
8/10 Good
"Family friendly and very quiet. Well positioned for visiting the main island. Would recommend."
Lindisfarne Bed & Breakfast
10/10 Excellent
"This is a lovely, clean and inviting B&B - made exceptional by the couple who run it. My room and the whole place felt spacious, the views are lovely (across fields down to the harbour), and also the location is great even if you don't have your own transport. I'm vegan, and not only was there plenty to choose from, but they'd have got in more had my message got through the system soon enough! I had fresh fruit and toast every morning, and having breakfast cooked to order was so nice, too :) The main X1 bus stops a couple of minutes from the B&B, though I ended up walking to and from the harbour and town - partly because on Sunday the buses don't start early enough to get you to the ferry to Hoy(!), and then because I realised how quick the walk is (20 mins there, maybe 25 mins back uphill). But it's an excellent location to see everything from, with or without a car. So many nice touches go up to make this a great place - from things like having proper big cups in the room to make tea, to incredibly comfy beds and a blackout blind. And the hosts are just so lovely: friendly but professional, and obviously happy to share their enthusiasm for the islands they're from. I'd recommend this B&B unreservedly."
