Tucked along Tomales Bay, this coastal hamlet offers a front-row seat to nature's quiet spectacle. Rent a kayak to glide past harbor seals lounging on sandbars or slurp freshly-shucked oysters at waterfront farms. Point Reyes National Seashore surrounds with wild beaches and forested trails where tule elk roam freely. Heart's Desire Beach provides sheltered swimming while Limantour Beach stretches for miles of windswept solitude. The shipwrecked Point Reyes boat makes for an iconic photo against Tomales Bay's misty waters. Whale watching excursions depart seasonally, though locals know patient observers might spot migrating gray whales from shore. After hiking, warm up at the tiny village store where rangers and farmers exchange weather predictions with absolute certainty.
"This is a very pleasant resort-type hotel in Rohnert Park. Even if you are not into golf or gambling, both of which are very accessible, this is a delightful hotel to stay in. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the staff friendly and helpful, and the amenities are great. We very much enjoyed sunning by the pool and the hot tub was great for relaxing. The restaurant is also very good with diverse options and great taste."
"We stayed here to help our daughter move back home after graduating college. There was plenty of room for our truck and U-Haul trailer. The room had all the necessity like shower, bed, tv. Ac, microwave and refrigerator. We felt safe and the check-in was easy and staff friendly."
"If I could, I'd give the property 4.2 stars. First. It's a beach hotel, so I always give some latitude because maintaining a property under those conditions is difficult.
Pluses:
Location: You're a 5 minute drive to Doran Beach ($8 day use) and 7 minutes to Salmon Creek Beach (which we preferred).
Staff: Super friendly and helpful.
View: Lovely view of the Bay.
A little strange:
Design choices. Clearly going for modern design but if felt like a huge empty room with two beds. Lots of unused space and walls.
There's Keurig in the room, but no water provided. You have to go outside to a fairly sketchy looking machine for water. I just filled the container with ice and let it melt overnight.
Negatives:
I'm not keen on the no staff on site after hours. I'm not comfortable with the security of the entry to room by code. My daughter asked, "how often do you think they change the codes?" These are personal preferences. Also, clearly, they've remodeled the property, and if you drive all the way around the parking lot, you can see piles of debris that was removed (a water heater, and drywall etc) Tacky and unsightly. Also, they've remodeled with home-depot style fixtures (I have the exact bathroom faucet cabinet in our guest bathroom), which I don't think will stand up to wear and tear.
Recommend: Captain Davey's (5 minute walk) for coffee and/or ice cream. Limited hours. And there are several souvenir and restaurants just north of the hotel, by car."
"The resort was very nice, and the restaurant was very good, selling local oysters. The place is also very quiet. We had almost no interactions with staff and the check-in was through an envelope left for us at the closed office. The pool was closed and there is no hot tub. The place is very remote but great for exploring Point Reyes."
Embassy Suites by Hilton San Rafael at Marin Center
10/10 Excellent
"The property was clean. The rooms are clean. The breakfast was good and made to order. There was a lot of options also for breakfast that you can get for yourself. They gave us two complementary drinks that we didn’t participate in. The bathroom was great. I just wish the beds were a little bit bigger and not so worn in but still comfortable. We stayed in the suite and it had two TVs. The pullout couch was decent to sleep on for the teenagers. overall, I feel like this was one of the better hotels with plenty of amenities for the price."
