Hotel is in a great location. Central to La Rambla and Punta Carretas shopping centre. Staff on arrival were friendly and welcoming. During our stay the staff did feel bothered when asked questions especially when we had issues with our room cards. Unfortunately the facilities need an upgrade. The lifts were constantly out of order. The lobby looks good but the rooms are very outdated and worn down. The room floors smell musty and there is a sewerage smell in the room which is hard to remove. Although the hotel states bed sheets will be changed every 3 days, this did not happen and we had to ask multiple times for this to happen. The room did not get cleaned and refreshed thoroughly daily as you’d expect in a hotel. Constantly having to ask for more towels, toilet paper etc. Breakfast was the same every day with no changes made and not a representation of the South American cuisine. For a chain like the Wyndham we expected better.

Swimming pool closed - one of the main reasons I booked this hotel. Bed uncomfortable, plus sheets didn’t fit properly. Some items in the bedroom were broken. The room allocated was large and very agreeable with large windows. The street not very busy and quiet. Breakfast had a good selection and having a restaurant is handy on days you are tired to go out again after sightseeing. The only problem was the smell of sewage from the bathroom. They fixed it but lasted 1 day then the smell came back. This seems to be a common occurrence all around Uruguay, from our experience after 2 weeks here.

Check in staff should be friendlier. Hotel has great amenities, I cannot comment on this. Our biggest issues the consistent concern with the funky smell from the washroom. We had to close the door at night and plug any orifice that had a drain. Not sure why this is like this. Might be some serious plumbing issue.

Breakfast was good, with a variety of fruits, juices, breads, cheeses, and ham. The staff were helpful whenever assistance was requested. The only issue was the bathtub shower screen. It was only a half-height glass panel rather than a full door. Because of this, water splashed onto the bathroom floor during every shower, making it necessary to dry the floor afterward.

I have never reviewed any hotel....but had to share some pictures and thoughts on this one. From the outside, the property looks nice. From the inside, this is nowhere near a four star hotel. There were cracks in the tiles in the bathroom and the sink. There were obvious paint stains left on the mirror in the bathroom. There were no outlets near the bed to charge devices. Save your money and stay at the Ibis across the street. At most, this hotel should be a three star and I'd even question that.
