    Puerto Morelos has a tropical climate, with average temperatures ranging from 23ºC and 28ºC all year round. 

    • The rainiest time of the year is between June and November, with an average of 9 rainy days per month. 
    • Note that between March and November, you can expect heat peaks over 40ºC.
    • December-February is peak tourist season, with hotel and flight prices rising accordingly. 
    • March-October is a great time to visit; although the weather is hotter and more humid, you’ll avoid the peak season’s throngs, and flight and hotel prices are more affordable.

    Cancun International Airport

    One of the busiest and largest airports in Mexico, Cancun International Airport is the primary airport to get to Puerto Morelos. It sits 21 km north of the small seaside town, as the crow flies. Cancun Airport features no less than 4 passenger terminals and 2 runways. Here, you’ll find a great range of dining and shopping options as well as facilities including free Wi-Fi, banking and currency exchange services. There are several transfer options to reach Puerto Morelos:

    • There’s no taxi rank at Cancun Airport.
    • The airport taxi services feature a good choice of vehicles from shareRide to taxiX to taxiXL to taxiSUV. The journey takes around 20-25 minutes. To get a better price, reservations must be made beforehand, online – expect to pay more if you buy your transfer on-site.
    • ADO runs comfortable 35-seater buses that can take you to Puerto Morelos ADO Terminal, 2 km from Puerto Morelos Town Square, in around 25-30 minutes. It’s the cheapest way to get there. ADO ticket counters can be found in each terminal. ADO Buses to Puerto Morelos run every 40 minutes from the airport.
    • Car rental agencies can be found within the grounds of the airport.

    How to get around Puerto Morelos?

    Puerto Morales Town and the nearby Town Square – where most of the beachside hotels are located – are compact and can easily be explored on foot. Both hosts a good choice of dining, shopping and nightlife entertainment options. Note that walking at night in isolated areas is not recommended. For getting around Puerto Morelos, a good choice of public and private transport services is at hand.

  • Colectivos – local minivans

    Colectivos – local minivans
    • Colectivos are local minivans that offer a fun and economical way to get around Puerto Morelos. It’s a genuine Mexican experience.
    • They run in the town centre and along the highway. You can get to many beaches and even to Playa del Carmen, 30 km south of Puerto Morelos.
    • Tickets are available for sale on the bus.

  • Taking a taxi

    • Taxis are the main and most convenient mode of transport in Puerto Morelos. They can be hailed down on the street.
    • Cab stands can be found in Puerto Morelos Town Square and just off Highway 307 at the ADO Bus Terminal.
    • You can also call companies such as Los taxis del Sindicato Cesar Martín Rosado (998 871 0090) or Taxis Dreams (998 215 8089), just to name a few.
    • Always agree on the price with the driver before getting in a taxi.

    • Cycling is a fun and healthy way to get around Puerto Morelos. The beach is only 2.5 km from the town centre so it’s not a too demanding ride.
    • Many hotels have rental bikes at hand. If not, you can find bicycle rental shops such as Puerto Morelos Green Bikes (+52 998 734 8132) and Divers Point Bike Rental (+52 998 206 9051) in the Town Square.

    Independence Day

    • What: Mexican flags float all around the city for the celebration of Mexican Independence Day. Expect traditional food, dance and music performances, and artisans’ stalls in this notable cultural event.
