Jukdo Beach is a local hotspot for watersports and sunbathing throughout the day. After sunset, this sandy stretch is illuminated by the bars and restaurants that overlook the beach. There’s an easily accessible panoramic viewpoint toward the east end of the bay.
After admiring the view of the beach and ocean, you can grab a table at a local restaurant, such as Koseuteo or Dudungil. You’ll also find an array of cafes like Fika, Khan, and Please Wait. We recommend arriving just before sunset to see hues of red and orange reflecting off the Sea of Japan.

Singlefin Aleworks is a spacious beer store and bar near Hajodaehaesuyokjang in Gangwon-do. You can grab a table on the mezzanine that overlooks the bar. Its beverages menu is almost endless, and the food is delicious too.
Singlefin Aleworks sells beverages by the can and bottle, though we recommend grabbing a craft beer on tap if you want to soak up the atmosphere. If you need to refuel, try one of Singlefin’s Chicago-style deep pan pizzas.

Abai Village
A small village of North Korean refugees

Since the 1950s, Abai Village has been home to a community of North Korean refugees, which gives this district a distinctive atmosphere compared to the rest of Sokcho. While only a few hundred inhabitants remain, the village still contains homes that have largely been untouched since the Korean War.
Many of the villagers still rely on fishing, meaning the area is home to many of Sokcho’s most delicious traditional seafood restaurants. We recommend grabbing a table at the top-rated Sindasin restaurant.

A karaoke bar that stays open until the early hours

골든7080 is a dimly lit but atmospheric karaoke bar in Sokcho City. It’s a must-visit for those who want to dive into the local culture during their stay in South Korea.
While you’re in the area, we highly recommend visiting the nearby Younggeumjeong Pavilion, which overlooks the Sea of Japan from a rocky outcrop. The pavilion is accessible by a bridge that’s illuminated at night, making it one of Yangyang’s best viewpoints to watch the sunset.

At the scenic Namae Port, you can watch the sunset above the Sea of Japan. It has an observation deck above the water, which you can reach by walking across a transparent walkway. You can admire the harbour’s historical lighthouse, which illuminates the ocean when the sun goes down.

Hajodae is one of the best spots in Yangyang to watch the sunset in comfort. It has a whitewashed lighthouse, amazing scenery and a wooden walkway that stretches around a rocky outcrop. You can grab a coffee or hot chocolate from a traditional coffee shop, and stroll along the shore of the nearby Hajodae Beach.
If you can’t pull yourself away from this stunning viewpoint, you can stay at a nearby campground. There are many cabins, a common area, and portable homes complete with kitchens and Wi-Fi.
