Since originally opening in April 1988, the Coconut Beach Sand Sports Complex has been the home of sand volleyball for the New Orleans area. Only 15 minutes from city centre, this facility offers outdoor fun in the sand to the highest degree.
With 22 courts on 100,000 square feet of man-made beach, Coconut Beach can boast that it is one of the largest sand volleyball complexes in the United States. The facility plays host to thousands of players every week in the form of leagues, events, and tournaments and serves both children and adults.

Highlights and history of Coconut Beach Sand Sports Complex
The original Coconut Beach was funded through a Cooperative Endeavour Agreement with the City of New Orleans and was established on a New Orleans Recreation Development Commission playground. However, after Hurricane Katrina, the location was required by the Army Corps of Engineers for the installation of the new 17th Street Canal Pumping Station.
Eventually, the City of Kenner offered property, and the facility was relocated to its current location. The parcel of land was larger, which allowed for the establishment of sand football and dodgeball at the complex. The change led to a new name of the Coconut Beach Sand Sports Complex.

The Coconut Beach Sand Sports Complex is a great family facility with activities for both adults and children. With lots of space to run around, ample parking, and even a station to wash off sandy feet when finished, the facility has become a local family favourite. There's also a full bar and grill with a fairly extensive menu that also offers vegetarian options.
The complex has several different leagues for children and adults as well as a running club and a summer camp schedule for children ages 10-17. That facility also has options for events and birthday parties.
