Good Space for Family of Five, But Conside other T
We are a family of 5 and found the space to be comfortable for us. The kids enjoyed the welcome refreshments, the two televisions that connected to our Netflix accounts and we liked the proximity to the Namba Station and Dotonbori, an area full of shops, restaurants and the river cruise.
We had been traveling Japan for two weeks before our arrival and most hotels held our luggage until check-in for free. This hotel was charging us 500 yen per luggage.
We found it hard to get a good nights sleep. Our room faced the main street and the street noise kept us up. The pillows were not comfortable at all.
I think what prevented us from giving it a better review was the smell in the room. It had a musty order. Every time we would enter the room, we were greeted by that musty spell.
It would have also been nice to have the AC on when we arrived to our room. We entered the room after checking in and found the room to be unbearably hot. It took a while for the AC to kick in.
Room too small for family of 4. Not much of services provided because it was mostly self-service. Location was near Namba which was good and convenient
Overall it was a good place and near train stations especially Namba.
The refrigerator in the room was not working. Also the staff was hard to reach, and when we tried to call her, no response but we could hear her talking. Apparently on the phone. Tried to get her attention and she closed the door in front of us. Never came out to check what we needed at all. For that the service wasn't good.
The pillows were really hard and not comfortable for sleep.
Good sized rooms with efficient layouts due to the bunk beds which makes it feel larger than it is.
Staff and service is extremely limited. We stayed for 3 nights and there was no housekeeping at all, not even trash and towel service which is standard with this level of hotel. Also a safety concern if they are not getting into the rooms on a regular basis?
There is no front desk and staff are not visible. Hours they are on site is unclear. There is a sign to ring a bell
For service but was not able to locate the bell.
We sent our luggage ahead to them and they were responsive on email and stored our luggage in on site lockers for 500 yen per locker.
The window sill in the room was very very dusty and dirty. Other parts of the room appear reasonably clean.
The pillows are very uncomfortable (they are the ones with beads inside and limited cushioning). We have seen these pillows at other hotels and are common in Japan. However other hotels have a softer option also available but the Wellstay Namba did not. The staff suggested that we use towels to make it softer. We used the inflatable pillows from our flight.
Overall this is a solid choice for a budget conscious traveller. But if you are wanting a bit more service you will not find that here.
