Our stay in Nevada City
This is a charming historic building built on the edge of lush Gold Run Creek with rooms right down above the water. Mornings, sitting outside with a cup of coffee is awesome! Even a reconstructed non-functional flume runs across the property on the ancient concrete supports. And it’s a quick walk across the bridge to downtown Nevada CIty - a super great location.
My rating of “okay” was based mainly on the fact that we are seniors and this isn’t a property for people who have problem with stairs or steps because you can’t go anywhere on this property without going up or down them. This is not a property for anyone who is truly mobility impaired. Even in our room, you had to step down a large step from the entry to the bed area, but have to step up a half step to get into the bathroom. We repeatedly tripped. It’s just what it is. My wife said that she would have really enjoyed this place back when I was younger because it is so interesting, but a 73, it’s a burden climbing the stores all the time. Something else, our room on the lower level is directly below the deck off of the dining and lounge area. Whenever a patio chair is moved, it reverberates loudly to our room below - at midnight. You don’t expect sound proofing in a 150 year old building, but made sleeping a challenge. Sorry, but we won’t be back, but it might be the idea place for you.
