I checked in quite late and my key was on reception waiting for me (as it is unmanned at night). Long story short, but my electronic key would not work in room50. It was the first time that this room was to be used since having a new style lock fitted. I called the out of hours telephone number several times and nobody answered. I ended up sleeping in my van in the car park.
After explaining this to the receptionist in the morning, who was incredibly apologetic, they offered me a free breakfast and full refund.
And since contacting hotels.com for the refund I am told that neither the hotel nor hotels.com will refund as it is outside of the refund policy.
So, nobody answers the ‘out-of-hours’ phone at night, key not working, accepting the issue and now trying to get out if it. Very disappointed with this hotel and hotels.com for not refunding this booking.
