The hotel itself was great. The property was beautiful, the room was clean and comfortable, and the bed was excellent.
Unfortunately, my check-in experience was incredibly disappointing. I booked through Expedia, but when I arrived around 11:00 p.m., the front desk could not find my reservation. After a long wait, they asked me to leave a deposit while they sorted it out. I had been traveling all day and was exhausted, so I agreed.
Shortly after getting to my room and into the shower, someone repeatedly knocked on my door and rang the doorbell. I had to get out of the shower to see who it was. It was around midnight, and as a woman traveling alone, I was understandably hesitant to open the door.
After confirming he was a hotel employee, I opened it. He immediately blocked the door with his arm and later his foot while using a translation app to tell me there was an issue with my reservation and that I needed to return to the front desk. This is a very large property, and I had already provided my reservation confirmation during check-in. He asked for it again, and despite providing it, the interaction continued for about 20 minutes.
In the end, they simply told me everything was fine. I still don't know whether they found my reservation or realized they had made a mistake. Regardless, the experience was unsettling and made me feel unsafe. It's unfortunate because the hotel itself was wonderful, but this experience overshadowed what otherwise would have been a great stay.
