This hotel has so much potential but it's clearly managed on a shoestring. Booked 2 rooms with friends. First room was leaking and no heating, staff did manage to swap the rooms after some debate. The second night the room key didn't work resulting in waiting around for staff to try get a key at desk. No facilities downstairs whilst locked out due to a private function.

A generally pleasant stay. Beautiful hotel and lovely room but couldn't fathom the heating, luckily it was not that cold. Check in was tedious and a fairly long queue. The light on the bathroom mirror and associated electric socket were not working and reported to reception. They fixed the light but not the socket (room 26)

Lovely hotel! I just felt that the room I was in was looking a bit ‘tired’. There were quite a lot of scuffs on the wall which could be covered easily with a cost of paint. Same on the window in the bathroom. The sealant around the bath was also very poorly applied - all gaps were filled but the finish of the application was really quite poorly applied. BUT - a lovely historical building and despite what I have written I would definitely stay there again.

Pas de TV, pas de wifi, un jacuzzi d’eau brûlante. Ce genre d’hôtel est surcôté. Uniquement fait pour des EVJF. Je l’ai fréquenté il y a 5 ans, au moins, il y avait un buffet au breakfast et une piscine. Ça c’est fini. Dommage.😢

Fantastic location Rooms and public areas need maintainance. We had 2 rooms 1 room both taps leaked and shower tray did not drain properly. Beds very hard could feel springs through them. 2nd room heating didn't work and and due to height of room curtains struggled to be closed. Carpet on stairs just stuck down and overlapping on steps making it dangerous, no lighting in 2nd floor corridor outside lifts. 3rd floor carpet torn between corridor doors which was trip hazard. Its such a shame as we stayed the same time last year and everything was brilliant, its such a shame as it such a beautiful building.

The desk staff were on the whole helpful though we were told room 23 on the 3rd floor. The numbers on the doors looked special & we got excited but found out that we should have been on the 2nd floor! A lovely member of staff helped us to find the room & made us feel at home. It was overlooking the main road so had a view towards the Mersey & the docks with a little balcony. A nicely decorated black, white & silver room, though not furnished with any 'White Star Line' artifacts. It had 2 x double beds, which was perfect for us, a kettle & brew items and iron all inside the wardrobe. The bathroom had a lovely waterfall shower but you had to negotiate getting into a large jacuzzi bath to use it! To note: no plug in bath/sink. The inner window in the bathroom could be shut if you stood on the aforemention bath. Very comfortable beds, clean room and great view! We didn't have breakfast so cannot comment but the Grand Hall looked nicely furnished with items of historic memorabelia.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, with everything I needed for a relaxing visit. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. The location was convenient for getting around. I also appreciated the attention to detail and the overall cleanliness of the property. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was nice, which made for a pleasant stay overall. However, the air conditioning wasn’t working, which was an issue during the middle of a hot summer. The room became quite warm and uncomfortable, especially at night.

L'hôtel est très bien placé, mais vieillissant. Il semble que des travaux soient en cours (peinture notamment), toutefois aucun rideau ne tient à sa barre, les fenêtres sont sales et la moquette noire et épaisse ne permet pas de savoir si l'aspirateur y est passé de façon régulière. La salle de petit-déjeuner au dernier étage est charmante, mais le service terriblement lent. Il n'y a pas réellement de salon d'accueil ou lobby au rez-de-chaussée et le personnel est simplement poli mais ne cherche pas à renseigner ou rendre service.

The room was spot on for a family of 5, ideal being all together and not needing two rooms. The rooms don’t blow you away but are clean which makes a big difference. It’s close to all amenities.

I got huge room just for me, lovely kitchen, dining table, huge spa tub with rainfall shower in ceiling, 2 double beds to choose from and 2 single sofa beds and all was wonderfull until it was time for bed... mattress was thinand very old you could hear and feel the springs it was terribly uncomfortable on both bedsjust an absolute shame as the bath tub was amazing. All the furniture was old scuffed scraped damaged missing drawer knobs bathroom grouting was old stained and grubby even though it was all clean, carpets heavily stained even though hoovered. If the mattress was good i wouldnt have cared about any of this, no little amount of fees can justify the awful mattress quality how is this allowed, concierge didnt even ask how my stay was on checkout probably because he is sick of hearing about rubbish mattresses and bad state of the rooms, its a big shame as small changes could make this place stunning

Arrived after booking 7 months in advance to be told are room wasn't available and they'd book us a room in hotel next door which was more or less a youth hostel with people parting from 5pm to 5am and smoking in the corridor..I understand things can happen but there should have been some sort of refund

The hotel is dated. Lifts were broken and fire alarms kept going off. Stair carpets are filthy and ripped and dangerous. The Rio was big, clean but the tv did not work and not all the plug sockets worked. Staff were ok but when asking for an early checking stated they were extremely busy and full so fair enough couldn’t accommodate. Knowing it was busy they still proceeded to have 1 staff member do the check in at 4pm which resulted in queue . I would not stay again.
