Strangely enough, I had to register my husband’s name as an additional guest in the room, and the front desk clerk was adamant that I had to provide his full name, before I could be issued our room key cards. When I asked why, I was told it was for my safety (if they needed to evacuate, then they’d have a total headcount - - which they’d have from a guest COUNT, and not from guest NAMES). When I asked again later in the conversation, I was told it was for security. When I followed up with the GM the next day, I was told that it was for guest experience reasons - - many times, one party misplaces their keycard and needs a new one, but if they’re not a registered guest in the room, it’s a hassle to contact the registered guest to get them to come to the front desk and get a new keycard issued.
Sure, I suppose I can appreciate the guest experience reason - but if I don’t feel the need to register my guest’s name, it shouldn’t be pressed, because I can guarantee the family of 5 who checked in simultaneously as us, weren’t asked to provide the full names of their teenage kids staying with them.
