I was visiting Durham to drop my daughter off for a 2-week camp. I thought Residence Inn would be perfect as we had been traveling for a few weeks and needed to prepare for her dropoff - laundry, ironing, strategic packing, etc. Sadly, things that should have been a convenience ended up a nuisance.
At check-in we were told continental breakfast was served 7-10. We arrived at 9 and two employees were gathering the food and taking it to the kitchen. They told us breakfast was over. They were quite rude and more concerned with finishing their task quickly rather than accommodating a guest. When we mentioned the time we were given at check-in they dismissed us and said they had a job to do.
Other interactions were small but added up to an overall frustrating experience. The fee for laundry was listed on a card in the room. We secured enough quarters only to get there and realize the actual cost was higher. Had to make another trip for quarters. Housekeeping knocked on our door at 8am despite having the 'do not disturb' hanger out. They came back again at 10.
When we went to get our laundry around 10:30 we came back to the room and our key no longer worked requiring another trip to the front desk. Although check out wasn't until noon, housekeeping came back at 11:50 and told us we would be charged late checkout if we didn't leave.
Again, all small interactions, but it left us feeling as if staff were more concerned with getting rid of us rather than our experience there.
