6/10 Good

The staff were very friendly but the entrance and check in area was so underwhelming and stank of wee or a strange ammonia type cleaning fluid, as did the stairwell and hall areas. Not helped by the fact we had to wait some time to check in because the bar was showing a football game. I heard other guests comment on the smell as well at breakfast. For the price I would have expected much better pillows and a cleaner more high end guest reception. A bit grubby and unkept overall and more basic than the price indicated. I don’t think I would stay again, even if they had an offer on. On the plus side, road noise and bar noise was minimal.

We booked this location based on other reviews and were not disappointed. Staff were very accommodating and welcoming. Food was very good, our room was clean and spacious with lovely decor. As in other reviews be prepared for the walk up the hill from the city centre. It’s a long one but worth it when you get to the top!

Very comfortable with great room facilities and an excellent breakfast. Parking is a problem at the Bear with few spaces on site and in the surroundings.

Lovely room. Great that there is free car park. Not many cafes and places you can have breakfast in the area on Sunday, other than the pub.

Cuteness overload

The room was excellent, clean, and adorable. The beds were comfortable. The restaurant on the first floor was very good with options that tasted great at reasonable cost for vegetarian/vegans. The inn is located a bit from down town, it is close to a grocer and pharmacies.

Fantastic first trip to Bath!

Fantastic hotel in a great location for walking down into Bath (although steep walk back up), and ideal for getting train into Bristol. All the staff were lovely and very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was delicious every morning!!! Room was great and although by a main road, was not disturbed by noise at all. Would definitely book again if ever travelling to that area!!!

Lovely stay in the family room (2 adults, 2 children). Comfortable, spacious and well equipped room. Lovely freshly cooked breakfast and dinner in the pub was delicious. Friendly and helpful staff made it a very pleasant stay. We would happily stay again.

Hotel is a easy walk to downtown...more of a challenge back (hill). Parking was easy out back and hotel has nice restaurant/bar downstairs (was very busy the night we were there.). Surprisingly, even though the room was over the bar and next to busy road, it was quite quiet. The only downside to the hotel was lack of elevator but at least there was only one floor.😁

Stayed for 2 nights, great location for a short walk into bath. Free parking is a great plus. The walk into bath is a fairly steep hill so bare that in mind. Hotel itself superb, really friendly team immaculate room with a touch of class. Nice vibrant pub below.

Comfortable and helpful staff

Very good hotel and the staff were exemplary. Breakfast was limited but the cooked food was excellent though took some time to prepare. Sadly, the coffee making machine was broken for entire stay and only instant available.

Good spot above nice pub

Excellent stay. Good location just outside the city centre. Check in was quick and easy. Room clean and very quiet, well equipped and plenty of sitting space. Two minor gripes: the bed was quite small even though there was definitely space for a king size in the room, and the extractor fan in the bathroom made an annoying clicking sound, which led us to turning it off.

Large comfortable room

Very welcoming check in and out. Room number 2. Large comfortable room and bathroom. Quiet. Toiletries, coffee machine, tea, biscuits, water provided. Approx 20 mins walk into city centre (a bit of a hill coming back up but perfectly do-able). Tasty large breakfast (paid for separately) Very friendly. Will definitely stay again

Had a 2 night stay to visit the Bath Christmas market. Parking was readily available onsite and the check-in process was easy and prompt with the friendly staff. The room exceeded our expectations with a lovely shower and freestanding bath, large wall mounted tv and separate radio. Whilst being located outside the city centre, it was only a 15 minute walk to the centre using the short cuts (thanks to Google maps). Would highly recommend

8/10 Very good

Room was lovely however, water pressure wasn't great and it took ages to fill the bath in the room we were in. The breakfast options were a bit lax, no congenital options and if you're not a fan of eggs then menu is a bit limited. Otherwise location is fab, really short walk to and from the city centre and the hill on the way back really isn't that bad. All the staff at the hotel were lovely and welcoming, room was spotless and very clean. All in all we would come back.

Excellent!

Large, clean, quiet room with a comfortable bed. Coffee, tea, water, and biscuits provided. Large, clean bath with soaking tub as well as double head shower. Hot water with great water pressure. Nice toiletries and large towels. Check in/out efficient and pleasant. Breakfast and dinner both great food. This is over a pub yet there was no noise in my room even with England playing in the Euro Cup. Location was convenient with shops close. Fifteen minute walk to main train and bus stations and central Bath. Bus stop just out the door. Highly recommend this property.

Spacious, well appointed and comfortable rooms.

One night stay whilst visiting Bath to watch the rugby at the Recreation Ground. Met by a very friendly and efficient lady who checked me in and explained the various entry requirements after 11pm. Room 6 was excellently appointed, spacious and very comfortable. Huge bathroom with shower and a bath. Free car parking although probably only spaces for around 8/10 cars but they do try and keep these free for guests. Was not able to eat/drink at the hotel but the menu looked good, there was a wide range of beers and the place was busy which suggests the standard was good. It took me approximately 15 minutes to walk to the centre of Bath although it took longer coming back as up quite a steep hill. Excellent value compared to the standard hotels nearer the centre. Would have no hesitation in staying here again.

4/10 Fair

Unbearable Inn

Not the best location for the city centre but our fault for not checking perhaps. On a busy road but secondary glazing effective at blocking most noise. But inexcusable is the smell prevalent, like stale laundry, luckily not too strong in the actual room. Lo and behold there were lots of bags of laundry at the entrance (almost to the point of blocking it) for the 2 days we were there, which has been mentioned many times on Trip Advisor so an ongoing problem. Also breakfast choice too limited but quality ok. Noisy at night until 1pm as after the pub shut they were dragging tables around downstairs and there is really noisy door closer or something constantly squeaking. I know the response will be that I should have complained at the time but none of this can be one-offs and must be noticeable by staff as well. Friendly staff though, shame the rest lets it down.
