Property was located conveniently in an area where there are no other hotels/accommodations within the same price range. It has all the basic amenities needed for a fuss free stay. I felt comfortable during my stay. Kitchen was a great to help with preparing meals and bed was comfortable.

Great place to stay, Leon was super nice he showed us around and everything was clean and just a wonderful stay over all...all the bad reviews are probably people not from the island and expected a hotel and its not,it is like a home away from home very homey feeling and vibes...he has a new number so message him thru the app first to get his number 10/10 recommend

Leon was the perfect host. He made sure we knew where we were headed spent an hour letting us know where and when to avoid the crowds. The house was very nice and spacious. The property was, as the name suggests very forested in a rain forest. The only reason a 5 star was not given was the bathroom needed a lightbulb for the shower and the actual showerhead was about a foot higher than normal. Once these minor problems are fixed, it should/will be better.

The bathroom was disgusting tub dirty and rusty and the caulking around tub was moldy gross. When sitting on toilet I got drip on from the rain, roof leak. This is just an old house with a smell to it. Needs a lot of maintenance done to it.

it was welcoming to pets .but I didn't have a pet,and there was no hot tub and if it was I would not have gotten in it, I was afraid to even get into the shower. Floor mats were dirty , the bathroon window was so dirty that i could not see out of the windows. The croking frogs keep me awake all night. I could not wait to day break to get out of there. There was a lock on one door but the bathroom door which lead in my room did not have a door lock, which ment that the lock on my door waqs irrelevant.I diod not feel safe in that place. The outside doors that entered the house did not lock either

I was warmly greeted and made to feel like home. Leon was very kind and resourceful. He gave me a lot of good travel tips about the island and it’s beaches. I’d definitely stay here again!

Leo was a great host at Fern Forest. It is a beautiful property, very quiet and kind of out off the beaten path. The house itself is beautiful with 3 to 4 room with their own restrooms and refrigerators. The communal living space is awesome if you get lucky, you may be the only one staying there and will have the run of the entire house I will definitely stay again!

Don’t Come Here!

This property is in neglected condition. Filthy carpets, chipped dishes, 1/2 kitchen sink inoperative. Outdated furniture, boarded up hot tub on the deck, disgusting barbecue inoperative. Burned on food on the electric cooktop. Super slow internet access.

B&B in the Forest

This is a large house in the forest just below the volcano of the Big Island. Only two bedrooms but several large sectional couches for family member to sleep on. No Cable but many streaming options. Needs a sign on the door with instructions and greeting.

I would never stay here again.

Well, it started with the host not being aware that we were showing up on the day we had reservations, then we were given someone else's room. You can imagine how uncomfortable it was when they showed up! the bathrooms were not clean, the carpet hasn't seen a vacuum in a very long time and there was a dank smell throughout.

Our stay at Fern Forest

The house is a bit outdated and a little run down, but overall, the accommodations was a decent night stay and relatively close to Volcano National Park. For what we paid for, we were not expecting a Hilton or a HoJos and nor should you. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were clean, we also had use of the entire living room and kitchen—and pleasantly surprised to a light breakfast (coffee, bagels, peanut butter, jam, etc...), which we made in the morning, and ate on the lanai overlooking the lush property, filled with native vegetation and fruit trees. Leon, our host, gave us great tips on what to do at night, and it was totally worth it. Thanks! Note, the location is in a mostly unpaved road off the main highway, we rented an SUV so it was no problem.

Character in spades

This place was great. I prefer out of town locations. Peaceful. The frogs singing at night. The troop of Geckos that visit you on the porch. Set out some juice for them and watch them scamper about. Bed was comfy. Best sleep I've had in a while. Mr. Leon is a fantastic host. But I feel like I made a friend instead. All the more reason to visit him again. Water was hot for the shower. Also it's nice to have a laundry facility in case you need it. Extra blankets if you get cold. This is not a hotel. This is a home. You should not expect anything different. Plenty of room to spread out and relax. Which is what one should do when you stay here. I learned a little Russian. I love languages and culture. Mr Leon was a character, and his bnb was character in spades. I will be back. Already planning my return to Hilo. And I will stay here again.

I have never had such a disappointing experience. And I think I can compare. I have traveled to more than 70 countries. Makes all of Africa, the Arab countries. In addition to abandoned exteriors, cars are demolition materials. The property absolutely not maintained. Was extremely dirty!!! Hair, hair, smells, not to mention cobwebs. It's cold and wet. It is very poorly soundproofed the housing is shared. But is not designed for. No need to respond to my comment as you did to others, you had seen from my arrival that I was not at all satisfied. What a relief to leave these places. I'm ashamed for myself to have accepted this. Je n’ai jamais vécu une expérience aussi décevante. Et je penses pouvoir comparer. J’ai voyagé dans plus de 70 pays. Fait toute l’Afrique, les pays arabes. Outre les extérieurs laissés à l’abandon, voitures matériaux de démolitions. La propriété absolument pas entretenue. S’était extrêmement sale !!! Des poiles des cheveux des odeurs sans parler des toiles d’araignées. Il fait froid humide. C’est très mal insonorisé le logement est partagé. Mais n’est pas conçu pour. Pas la peine de répondre à mon commentaire comme vous l’avez fait aux autres, vous aviez vu des mon arrivée que je n’étais pas du tout satisfait. Quel soulagement de quitter ces lieux. J’ai honte pour moi même d’avoir accepté ça.

Es una casa con varias habitaciones, con baño privado. Nos toco la habitación en la planta baja. Muy limpio todo . Tiene cocina compartida pero eramos los únicos huéspedes entonces tuvimos el privilegio de la casa sola. El dueño vive en la parte de atras en una casita separada. Tiene un perro que todo el tiempo esta en la entrada de la casa, pero no ataca. No hay señal del telefono en una gran parte de esta area. Tiene que salir a carretera. Hay wifi en la casa pero solo agarra en el segundo piso donde hay una pequeña sala de estar.
