Being able to explore the whole hotel was THE GREATEST EVER!! Especially for my two 11 year old Granddaughters. They had the best time in the whole world hunting the ghost of this historical treasure. They were sure to use their Ghost Finder app. ALOT! of sightings on all floors and stairwell to 3rd floor. I actually DID NOT believe in the ghost having been here several times over the years....I AM a believer now .lol!

Staff was very kind and helpful. The room was small and no TV, and no elevator. Bathroom was not great - stained/dirty tub and old sheet vinyl floor peeling up on the edges. the trek up the stairs was a challenge in our old age. But it’s definitely a unique property with obvious history and local significance. Notable was the excellent service and coffee/pastries at the in-house Starbucks.

This is a historic hotel so creaky floors and noise travels well but it was charming, comfortable, and a good experience with the historical experience in mind. A very fun stay and experience!

This is a very quaint and older hotel, but I've stayed here three times because I like it so much. The rooms are charming, clean, and have unique character. Also, the beds are comfortable and the staff friendly. The hotel even has its own saloon!

This is a very old, historical hotel so don't expect fancy amenities. However, it is very well kept up and comfortable. The staff are all very sweet and the room includes delicious pastries and coffee each morning down in their hotel lobby. The saloon has great food at night plus there's a great hamburger place or Thai restaurant just down the street. It IS haunted so have fun reading up on all of that history!!

Antique place

Very old but unique place. Long flight of stairs to room with no help from staff with luggage. Fortunately I'm a fit 78 yr old. Very small room and had to drag an extension cord around for blow dryer, curling iron, & phone.

Lovely old hotel with themed rooms. Just a bit too much decoration for my taste. Really appreciated this hotel in this small town. Good food too.

This place is so unique and has a great old-timey feel. Easy checkin, even at 4 am. And somehow it is the same price as the other conventional, depressing motels in the area. Definitely the best place to stay in Alturas.

Cute historic hotel. We got in late and only stayed for one night. Loved the character of the place. It was nice that they offered a free coffee and pastry.

Unique and charming property - clean and fun

Very unique and historic property - well cared for and in good shape. Plenty of space and clean. Fascinating place. Karaoke night was downstairs when we arrived, so a little noisy for a while (plus some interesting characters hanging around outside), but it was quiet and comfortable for the night. A bit spooky in a fun way. One of the only lodging options in a relatively rural/rustic area. Would definitely stay again.

The beds were super comfy! Unfortunately, one of our outlets nearest the sink didn’t work. The staff put heaters in the rooms for us since it was cold (New Year’s Eve), and that warmed the space nicely. It was fun being the only patrons at the entire hotel! The Niles is always an experience you don’t want to pass up, but know it’s an old hotel so temper your expectations for modern amenities.

This is not a modern hotel, so if you're looking for that, this ain't it. That said, I had a wonderful time. It's like staying at a museum. It's clean, and the bathrooms work perfectly well, but it is an old structure with its quirks. It's like cilantro: you're either gonna love it or hate it. I loved it. Everyone on staff was super friendly and helpful. If I ever end up in that neck of the woods, I'm staying there again. Staying at Motel 6 or Super 8 is usually not memorable, and if it is, it's probably for a wrong reason...
