"Had a great stay that definitely met our expectations. Room was beautiful and comfortable with much needed AC. Perfect, relaxing location with a beautiful pool and beach. The hotel has a newer chef who has upgraded the food which we enjoyed so much we didn’t feel the need to schlep into the busy town. Would definitely stay here again if we ever make our way back to Sri Lanka one day. The hotel also provides but they seem to be around especially if one is sensitive. Also special mention to the owner who is super friendly and hands-on enduring that the guests’ needs are being met. Thank you! "

"I was very unhappy with this accommodation, which we paid £200 per night. On arrival the hotel staff and checking was very nice, our room was on the fourth floor via the lift and very, very steep stairs to the room. The bathroom was awful totally open to the outside world view with plastic curtain which kept blowing around in the wind, when you were trying to take a shower. This wasn't shown in photo's on your website or mention in the description to this room. Also no desk in the room, or balony table and chairs. However, we complained about our dissatisfaction on the first day, On Monday we had enough and decided to leave with despair of paying £200 per a night, for a terrible room. We didnt even want to have their breakfast, worried that we would be disappointed with that as well. The Manager said he would refunded us for the full cost, but there wasnt anything in writing."

"Sensational stay at this beach front property. Personable and considered hospitality from all staff. Delicious and good value food menu with good seafood options on the beach. The beach itself is a quiet and beautiful stretch on to the ocean with clean sand and warm, swimmable waves. Big and clean rooms and bathrooms. Comfortable bed with firm mattress. We would love to visit again. "

"Talalla Retreat is marketed as a serene oceanfront wellness escape. Unfortunately, my experience did not align with that image. I prepaid for a Sea View Category Room. Upon arrival, I was shown to a room in a separate “new” building far from the sea, facing jungle greenery with a shared balcony. It did not reflect what most guests would reasonably expect from a sea view booking. When I raised this immediately, I was told there were no alternatives available. The options were to accept the room, move after two days to a non-AC open-air room, or cancel with a 20% late cancellation fee. After lengthy discussions, I chose not to stay. The main payment was refunded, but the cancellation fee was retained. The overall atmosphere felt commercial rather than retreat-like. Meals were buffet-only and did not appear particularly appetising. Some areas lacked the level of cleanliness and maintenance one would expect from a wellness-focused property. Staff were polite but inflexible, and the resolution process felt policy-driven rather than guest-centred. If you are attending a structured retreat and prioritise location over accommodation standards, it may suit you. However, if booking independently based on the marketing imagery, clarify the exact room location and view in advance. The natural setting is beautiful — the operational experience needs refinement."

"Extremely expensive for what l would call a 2 star hotel in Europe. Trash everywhere, located in a narrow side street, with no proper beach. A clean toproof swimming pool BUT in a unfriendly area with no sun umbrellas and in desperate need for renovation. Cracked shower walls, luke water only, rusty and shabby furniture. No TV and no phone. The view was nice in front of the hotel (if you ignore the trash) but empty lots on each side, which didnt make it interesting to explore. Poor breakfast and super dirty kitchen we accidentally went into. Staff hanging at the reception instead of tyding or cleaning. No shops or restaurants in the vecinity, we took tuktuk to Mirissa (300-500 LKR for one way). Noone at the reception between 10pm and 8am! And they didnt even bother to come clean our room while we stayed there."
