It's feeding time at the zoo! If you want to be reminded of some of the great animals our world is home to, you might want to pay a trip to City Forest and Zoo, located 2.1 mi (3.3 km) from central Mexicali. If you have fun at City Forest and Zoo, you'll love Sol Children's Museum, located nearby.
Across the border from Calexico, this desert city serves up Mexico's most authentic Chinese food – a surprising legacy of 19th-century immigration. Along Avenida Madero, family-run taquerias dish out carne asada tacos that locals insist taste better in Mexicali's dry heat. The Sol Children's Museum offers hands-on exhibits that delight young travelers when afternoon temperatures soar. Cool evenings bring families to City Forest and Zoo, where desert wildlife thrives in carefully created habitats. Plaza Calafia hosts traditional bullfights for those curious about this controversial cultural tradition. The State Center for the Arts showcases regional talent in a striking modern building. After sunset, join locals at Plaza La Gran Via for outdoor dining under strings of colorful lights.
"The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. Kevin at the front desk was accommodating and made sure I had a heater sent to my room. The television was big and includes many channel offerings. My only gripe is I was given 2 free drinks for my stay but it could only be soda or beer. Not everyone likes beer or soda. Even a basic margarita or piña colada is better. Expand the choices. "
