The hotel was shabby but clean, with helpful staff at the front desk. The pool and hot tub were nice sized and good temperature. Location was convenient.
Our room, however, was very lacking. When we arrived, there was a strong smell of chemical cleaning products with a hint of cigarettes (in our non-smoking room.) There was no ice bucket, the phone didn't work, no do not disturb sign. The TV wouldn't turn on; the front desk advised to "just play around with the cords." When we did that, it finally worked -- but then the remote didn't. Another trip to the front desk for batteries.
The "continental breakfast" was one of the worst we've ever seen, with a few sad pastries, a few sad cereal selections, and some cold pancakes that apparently were meant to be heated up in the microwave.
Perhaps our biggest issue, however, was that the side door to the stairwell did not have a card reader or lock on it. Anyone could walk right in at any time. The man at the front desk shrugged this off when we brought it up as a concern because "it's always been like that." Not good enough.
I hope the new owners make some serious upgrades to this place because with some updates and more attention to the guest experience, it could be a good budget option in Summit County.
