Upon arrival, they told me they had «overbooked» and that they would put me in a different hotel instead. I had no choice in the matter. This was a very unpleasant experience, and the situation made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe.
When I read the reviews of the other hotel online, I realised that it’s apparently a common practice of the owners to lodge people at a different hotel than they ordered – and potentially in a room with a lower standard.
In the end I got a bed for the night, but the room standard was rather poor.
I have contacted hotels.com about the situation, but they have not to date done anything to resolve the situation.
