The room was clean, staff were very attentive and nice, breakfast was good, the outdoor and indoor pools were good. The issue with the hotel was the decor and comfort levels, which made it feel like a 4 stars hotel, but definitely not 5 stars.
The rooms are all quite bland - beige and brown everywhere! Without a hint of charm or Portugal.
Missing things like slippers, cofffee and tea making facilities, which I realised, on the last day, had to be requested from reception.
The indoor pool looked worn and sad.
The bar areas and various lounges were dark, uncomfortable and sad
The seating everywhere in public areas was uncomfortable.
It’s quite annoying that this hotel could really be so much better with a little thought and interior decoration. The layout is ok, although there’s a lot of walking and few lifts to the room levels, although I presume it’s the nature of the actual building and mixing of new and old.
The chapel is amazing.
On the whole the stay was disappointing and frustrating, as there are other choices with much better charm, comfort and service levels.
