Top neighborhoods in San José del Cabo

Centro Histórico San Jose del Cabo
Centro Histórico San Jose del Cabo charms visitors with cobblestone streets lined with colonial buildings housing vibrant art galleries and boutique shops. The 18th-century Mission San José anchors this cultural heart, while Plaza Mijares buzzes with local energy. Thursday Art Walks transform evenings into open-air celebrations where you can meet artists and browse their work. The neighborhood serves up delicious traditional Mexican cuisine alongside upscale farm-to-table restaurants. Boutique hotels in converted colonial buildings offer intimate accommodations with courtyards and rooftop terraces. This walkable district lets you explore everything easily on foot, though sturdy shoes are recommended for those historic cobblestones.

Zona Hotelera
Zona Hotelera hugs the coastline with stunning views of the Sea of Cortez. Spend your days lounging on pristine beaches, playing championship golf courses, or booking sport fishing charters from the marina. The natural beauty of San Jose Estuary offers a peaceful contrast to resort life, while Plaza Mega Comercial Mexicana handles your shopping needs. Upscale resort restaurants serve fresh seafood with ocean views, though you'll need a rental car to explore beyond your hotel. Most accommodations feature multiple pools, spas, and private beach access. The area maintains a relaxed atmosphere with contemporary Mexican architecture and meticulously landscaped grounds.

Downtown San Jose del Cabo
Downtown San Jose del Cabo charms visitors with colorful colonial streets and authentic Mexican character. The iconic Mission Church stands proudly over Plaza Mijares, where weekly Art Walks showcase local talent in numerous galleries. Cobblestone pathways lead to bustling markets filled with handcrafted treasures, from silver jewelry to traditional textiles. The neighborhood offers delicious Baja cuisine and fresh seafood at plaza-side restaurants with mariachi ambiance. While limited lodging exists in the historic core, the area is wonderfully walkable with most attractions just steps apart. Taxis and local buses easily connect downtown to nearby beach areas.

Costa Azul
Costa Azul's golden beaches and world-class surf breaks make this San José del Cabo neighborhood a paradise for wave chasers and sun worshippers alike. The famous Zippers break hosts international surfing competitions while scenic coastal walkways offer spectacular whale watching during migration season. Between surf sessions, visitors can stroll along the shoreline or dip their toes in the calm waters of the Sea of Cortez. Resort restaurants and beachfront palapas serve fresh seafood with ocean views just steps from the hotel. Most visitors stay in the beachfront properties that line the shore, offering infinity pools overlooking the water. A rental car is the best bet for exploring beyond the resort zone, though most beach attractions are within walking distance.

El Rosarito
San José del Cabo's El Rosarito neighborhood offers attractions including Museum of Playas de Rosarito.

Learn more about San José del Cabo
Watching humpback whales breach from beachfront bars feels almost unfairly commonplace in this seaside retreat. The historic Art District reveals a sophisticated side, where galleries showcase local talent between colonial buildings painted in sunset hues. Golf courses perch dramatically on oceanside cliffs, challenging players to focus on their swing rather than the spectacular views. Unlike its rowdier sibling Cabo San Lucas, this city maintains a dignified charm with cobblestone streets and family-run restaurants serving the day's catch. Costa Azul Beach attracts surfers while Palmilla Beach offers calmer waters for swimming. Visit the Thursday evening Art Walk when galleries stay open late and artists mingle with visitors over complimentary wine.

Krystal Grand Los Cabos - All inclusive
"The buffet restaurant was so hot, no air."
Hotel Colli
"Restaurant next to the hotel was convenient and had excellent food. But very very expensive."
Hotel El Ganzo - Adults Only
"Clean, very nice"
Marquis Los Cabos, An All Inclusive, Adults Only & No Timeshare Resort
"This was our second visit to Marquis in less than a year and it was even better than the first time. The staff are so friendly (shout outs to Adrianna and Anna) and make you feel so at home. The vibe at the place is terrific. It's not a party place. It's chill and always clean and well maintained. The food was also excellent. From the taco station by the pools to gourmet dinners, everything was terrific. Some resorts are bigger and have more bells and whistles, but Marquis is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation."
Secrets Puerto Los Cabos - Adults Only - All Inclusive
"Beautiful resort. Staff is amazing the only dislike I have is there’s no ice machine at all we have to call room service for that which sometime took an half an hour and also we didn’t get to go on the patio due to mosquito ness.. which is out of the resort control so overall yes I give this a five experience was great"
Hilton Vacation Club Cabo Azul Los Cabos
"Great experience for a family of five with kids under 12"
Zadun Los Cabos, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
"Beautiful property for the ultimate relaxation. The staff were incredibly attentive. Our Tosoani, Guillermo, was the best! We can’t wait to come back again."
Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort
"Our stay at Las Ventanas was one of the best luxury experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, every detail was flawless. The service was truly exceptional—honestly a 20/10. Every member of the staff made us feel genuinely cared for, anticipating our needs before we even had to ask. We felt treated like royalty throughout our stay. The resort itself is incredibly private, peaceful, and stunningly beautiful. The atmosphere is elegant without feeling pretentious, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. Every corner of the property is immaculate, and the attention to detail is second to none. If you’re looking for true luxury, privacy, and world-class hospitality, Las Ventanas exceeds every expectation. We can’t wait to return. Special things to Samuel and Gerson our butlers for making her stay exceptional♥️"
Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa - All Inclusive
"We had the swim up room and it was absolutely WONDERFUL! My husband and I traveled without any kids so it was nice to have the swim up room facing the adult pool. The variety of food options was great…restaurant, outside barefoot grill, 24-hour room service. Great nightly entertainment for adults (live band) and children (current movies on an outside screen). Only downside is that you cannot swim at the beach at the hotel because it is too dangerous. Watching the waves day and night was extremely peaceful though. Other public beaches (Chileno Bay and Playa de Santa Maria) are available nearby (about 8-10 mins away)…catch an Uber (super cheap!)."
