Zaragoza, the capital of northern Spain's Aragon region, is a real treat for history and architecture buffs. Its picture-perfect old quarter is a tribute to its captivating past, with its churches, squares, palaces and abodes styled by its previous occupants – from the Romans and Moors, to the Jews and Christians.

Overlooking the sparkling Ebro River is the jewel in the Zaragoza's crown: the Baroque-styled Neustra Senora del Pilar, or Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, known for its multiple domes.
