We recently stayed at Ahau Tulum and had a bit of a mixed experience. The property itself is absolutely beautiful the views are stunning, the rooms were clean and comfortable except for the fact the shower in room 22 did not get warm at all. we really loved seeing the animals around the resort. It truly has a unique, relaxing vibe that makes it feel special.
However, chris at the front desk was the only nice genuine worker. the service unfortunately took away from the overall experience. We found the staff to be overly pushy when it came to promoting their rewards program, which made interactions feel more like sales pitches than genuine hospitality.
We also had an uncomfortable experience with tipping. When we asked for small bills, we were repeatedly given larger ones, which led to us unintentionally leaving a very large tip for a single drink. When we adjusted our tipping afterward, the same server made a joking comment about what he expected for a tip. From that point on, his attitude noticeably changed — he stopped greeting us and the service became unfriendly.
It gave us the impression that there were assumptions made about us financially, which made us feel uncomfortable and impacted our stay greatly.
While the property itself is stunning and has so much potential, the service experience was disappointing enough that we would not choose to stay here again.
