My stay at the AC Hotel Kansas City Plaza from May 9 to May 12, 2025, was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.
First, on May 10, the air conditioning failed throughout the hotel. With temperatures in the 80s, our room (#320) was stuck at an unbearable 76 degrees, which made it impossible for my fiancé and me to sleep comfortably. Despite bringing this to the staff’s attention, nothing meaningful was done.
Then, the situation escalated on the morning of May 12, when I woke up early due to the heat and saw a bedbug crawling on my pillow. I recorded it on video and immediately showed it to hotel staff. Shockingly, they did absolutely nothing. We had to leave the room and sit in the hallway at 7:00 AM because it was no longer safe or sanitary to stay there.
To make matters worse, the manager was rude, condescending, and hostile when I followed up. She lied and told me pest control had cleared the room and found no bedbugs—even though both my fiancé and I physically saw the bug and recorded it. Despite claiming the room was negative, she refused to return my AirPods, which I accidentally left behind in our rush to leave due to the bedbugs and lack of urgency from hotel staff.
I called to retrieve my property, and she contradicted herself, saying the room was on lockdown awaiting pest control clearance.
