We stayed at the Kyoto Century Hotel and overall had a very good experience. The location is incredibly convenient, just steps from Kyoto Station and close to restaurants, shops, and convenience stores. The lobby is beautiful, and the staff were outstanding—professional, friendly, and helpful. I give them a full 5 out of 5 stars.
The rooms are small, as is typical in Japan, and not ideal for more than two people—three would be a tight fit. There’s very limited space for clothes, so be prepared to get creative with storage. That said, the beds were comfortable and the room was clean and functional.
The hotel has one restaurant, which was fine but not especially memorable. We mostly opted to eat at nearby places.
The only downside was a weird smell in the hallway during the first few days. At first, I thought it was from the restaurant, but I later realized it might be some kind of deodorizer—very strong and spicy-smelling. My daughter actually liked it, but it was off-putting to me. Thankfully, it didn’t linger inside the rooms.
Overall, this is a great place to stay if you want convenience, comfort, and top-notch service. Just expect small rooms and pack lightly!
