Jikko Harem is a fifteen minute walk from the main area of Pai. It is down a long, winding road that’s quite quiet but has a handful of cafes. It’s isolation was perfect for learning to ride a motorbike, though not ideal for walking home at night.
The common area, as it looks in pictures, was stunning. It typically had visitors hanging around and made for a great backdrop. The room was fine but I don’t think gets much cleaning attention between visitors. The couch and bathroom had tissues from the previous guest and there were a few active spider webs (one of which caught two mosquitos and gave us a cool up-close spider predator show). The room was very large.
Bao, the main host, and Jikko, the owner, are both extremely friendly. They will do whatever they can to make your stay accommodating, including driving you to and from town.
The one real downfall was our bed. It felt like sleeping on a metal fence, which was confusing. Many of things reviews mention how comfortable the beds are, which makes us think it differs room to room. There was a weird lattice pattern to the springs that jabs into you at every point. It was truly the most uncomfortable bed we’ve experienced. Our stay was short so we didn’t mention it, but ended up sleeping on top of the comforter for a layer of cushion. We had a pretty poor few nights of sleep.
It’s also worth mentioning that the shower is amazing. Really hot water, a proper closing glass door, and the best water pressure.
