PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE ALL TRAVEL VACCINES- THIS PLACE IS FILTHY! Bring your own toilet paper (as there is none) and hand sanitizer (as there are no means of washing your hands)
There are two toilets, neither have flushing capabilities. To flush, you must dump a bucket of water into toilet- water provided is stagnant and filled with VISIBLE parasites.
Same toilets are used by staff/ cooks- again, no hand washing facilities anywhere in hostel.
Property lists that there is a “spa”. The spa is women waiting on the beach for you to arrive who immediately begin to massage you, then charge you $240,000 COP, despite telling them “no thank you” repeatedly.
We were told by hostel owner, Tony, that “because there are very bad people on the island and because of the very bad storm” that happened the night we were there, that he was charging us $500,000 COP for his “services”. Which included him staying awake all night, creepily watching us and looking into our hut, to “keep us safe”. We didn’t have $500,000 COP, so he took all the money that we did have, plus my husband’s new baseball hat and a t-shirt.
This was just the tip of the iceberg.
We were supposed to stay multiple nights, we left immediately after the first night. Felt incredibly unsafe, watched, targeted, probably the worst experience of my life.
Involved the operations manager, Nicholas (via Expedia) once we returned to Cartagena, who has offered zero support and hasn’t returned any of our messages/ calls.
