I recently visited Tulum, a place I used to adore, but last few times, my experience was bittersweet. On the positive side, the property’s location is undoubtedly its strongest asset. Nestled in a prime spot, it offers the convenience of having everything within walking distance. This aspect of my stay was genuinely enjoyable, as I could easily explore the area on foot.
However, there were several downsides that marred my experience. One significant drawback is the high pricing, which I found to be excessive compared to the value offered. Additionally, the minimum spending requirement imposed on hotel guests at the beach was a disappointing.
Another issue that impacted my stay negatively was the constant hassle from drug dealers, beach vendors and beach bar staff for the tip. Their persistent presence and approach were bothersome and intrusive, making it challenging to relax and enjoy the beach’s natural beauty.
Reflecting on this visit, I can’t help but feel that Tulum has lost some of its charm due to a growing emphasis on profit over guest experience. It serves as a cautionary tale of how commercialization can detract from the allure of a tourist destination. While the location remains a significant draw, the overall experience left much to be desired.
